Walter Marty Schirra, Jr. 1923–2007
May 3rd, 2007 Posted in ObituariesWalter M. Schirra Jr., one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts and the only man to fly on NASA’s Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs, has died. He was 84.

I’ve read several books regarding the early days at NASA and Mr. Schirra was in every single one of them. He play a simple but large role in the overall advancement of our space programs during their infancy. Not only was he an honorable astronaut and American he was a brave soldier having flown 90 combat missions during the Korean war in 1951 and 1952.
